Eureka!

10ftpmtt

Well it's about time but I finally made another final table tonight. This was one of the $10 non-guarantee donkaments. The field size was right in my sweet spot and maybe that had something to do with the results, who knows? All I know is about 30 minutes in I hit some big hands and never was lower than 11th the entire rest of the damn thing. Only made one donkey move at the final table but my 40-60 with 78 s000ted took out 3rd place. Then two hands later all the money was in preflop with me holding 55 against A8. Wouldn't ya know that the board would pair the turn AND THE GODDAMN RIVER to take away my pair and I get hurt. Next hand I have AK and push, luckbox wakes up with AA and IGH in 2nd place out of 326 for a decent payday of $521.60. The ending hurt as it was almost $300 more for first but hey I'll take it. I'm also still alive in both the DDs right now at the first break so we'll see how that goes as well.

WSOP Bound!

I am just comming down off of my adrenaline rush. So I will make this short and sweet for now. Thanks to the generosity of Al, along with a deal made at the final table, yours truly will be playing in the WSOP during this summers WPBT gathering. It's the first one that I'll actually be attending so I will be disappointed by not playing the tournament on Saturday. However, this of course is tempered by the fact that I'll be playing in my first WSOP event.WSOP SeatI'll be playing in event #15, the $1500 NL event. I am also giving 1% of my action to all of my fellow bloggers that made the final table in the sat. That way at least I'll get SOMEBODY to railbird me :)

Solid Finish

Finally broke through with my first final table or significant cash since the FTOPs Main Event. Speaking of which you do realize that FullTilt has already announced the schedule for the next one right? 11k Final Table Anyway, the 11k guarantee on FullTilt started with over 500 runners at 6pm EST last night for a little over 13k in the prize pool. I've stated this in the past but I think that 500-700 people in the field is optimal for me and this tournament did nothing to disuade of me of that line of thinking. I played very solid the whole way, one once in the first 3 hours being all-in against a bigger stack and ahead every time. Until there were about 40 left, I had seen only 4 showdowns, winning 3 of those. With 20 left I had my first two suckouts of the tourney and they were both pretty huge. Neither was for more than half my stack, but hitting my gutshot with KQ after flopping that and top pair against a badly played (but still had me trapped) AA and then also pushing with an over and OESD when my opponent held TPTK and my over hitting the turn were both finally signs that I would have to mess this up myself and variance would not be taking me down this evening. In the end, I laid down suited connectors that I fell I should have pushed when 3 handed and then pushed with J9 from the BB against a button raise when I did not have fold equity. AT took me out and IGH in 3rd place less than 6 hours in for a $1,500 payday. Not bad and certainly felt good after the run I had been having lately. Either I played well and was getting kicked in the junk or I was playing like every other donkey in the field. Nothing had been working for a few weeks. It also puts my ROI back to a more healthy state which is always a good thing too! 11k Finish

Close, but no Cigar

Last night I took another shot at my goal of winning both of the Daily Double tournaments on FullTilt. And true to form I went deep in one while making an early exit in the other. That's obviously my pattern now. In all reality I would love to join those people like Garth that have at least cashed in both. I think that's a better step at first. Then we can move on to the dual final tables and wins. Anyway, my previous post about short stack play was in full effect last night when we were down to 21 people left in the Daily Double A. My 'M' was below 3 when there's a MP raiser with a big stack and it's folded to me in the BB and the blinds at 5000/2500. I look down at 78 and push, hoping for a fold or two live cards. In this case I didn't even get my 40-60 shot as the raiser held QQ and IGH with 5x my buyin. Not bad and I'll take it every time. But it is always frustrating to make it that close to a decent payday in a small buyin tournament and not taking it all the way. Anyway, I have no issues with the raiser waking up there with a big pair. The majority of the time he will have either overcards or even an underpair. I'm happy with either of those in that situation. If you refuse to take a few risks or are afraid to push with less than stellar cards when you get deep into a tournament then you severely hurt your chances to win the whole thing. Now I'm not advocating it with maybe 5 players left and there's a shorter stack than you. Then it's ok to try and limp up one more spot on the payout ladder. Below the final table though I just don't see it as there's not enough money on the line.

Taking Time Off Can Help

Well as some of you may know, I took a bit of time off from playing poker. I also neglected this blog. That second part wasn't really hard because I never have been much of a poster anyway. But I digress. In mid-December I was getting pretty burnt out. I was playing poorly but of course blaming it on my donkey opponents, suckouts, etc... I never took the time to reflect on my own play. So with the holidays coming and a vacation on the way I just quit playing cold turkey. After all of the crap with the payment processors I decided that I would go ahead and see what I could do with the remaining funds in my account, which really weren't all that much. I started playing some MTTs again in probably the third week of Jan and here are my results from PokerDB on FullTilt since then:

01/31/2007 Hold'em NL $24+$0 4 1,140 $1,710
As you can see I've been on a pretty solid run. Only mistake I think is throwing $800 into the FTOPS rebuy event. But hey what can you do?
