Wait, did you hear me correctly? Yep, you can indeed set up your normal Mac as a webserver if you have decent upstream bandwidth from your ISP.

The downside to this is that since I also sometimes boot that machine into Windows to play certain games then the site will be inaccessible. I think a small price to pay for the cost savings over even a cheap shared hosting plan.

Well you might notice a few changes around here. I used to have 3 separate WordPress blogs on my domain. One was used primarily for personal and tech stuff, one was primarily used by my fiance to post her cooking exploits, and one was purely poker related.

Well neither of us really post all that much and each time WordPress would release a new version it was pretty much a pain in the ass to upgrade all 3 installs. So I decided to just go ahead and combine them into one blog. They all used the same theme anyway with just color variations. Some of my family doesn’t really understand my interest in poker but since I never really was trying to monetize that blog anyway, they can deal with hearing about it. For those of you who know me from the poker world, hopefully you won’t mind hearing more about my fairly boring life. If you had been subscribing to a feed, you’ll need to delete it and start again with the feedburner link to the bottom right.

Oh and Astin, I don’t know if you had ever stopped by my blog before but I think you and Stephanie could swap a few good recipes!

I’m posting this using the MarsEdit blogging tool. I actually have a license to the previous version of this software from a bundle but ended up using Ecto instead. A new version of MarsEdit has been released from a new developer that has taken the project over. It seems to add a few features such as Flickr integration that make it seem viable for me so I decided to give it another try.

Compared to Ecto 2, MarsEdit appears to be a much cleaner layout. Ecto 3 is closer but you have to appreciate the simple beauty of MarsEdit. For beginning bloggers there might be a little bit more of a learning curve with MarsEdit though as it does not appear to provide a rich text editing option. So you are creating your posts in HTML. It has a simple drop down with basic things like links and paragraphs to help you along though.

It’s too early to say for sure if I’m going to go ahead and pay the $9.99 upgrade price and start using MarsEdit exclusively but I’m going to give it a shot for the 30 day trial and see how it goes.

This and my other blogs have all been updated to the latest version of WordPress, which now stands at 2.3. The biggest change is that tagging is now built into the core instead of requiring a plugin. It flawlessly imported all of my tags from Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) which I used previously. There are some issues with the new system such as no built-in method of managing your tags once used. However, there are already some additional plugins that handle this.

Now comes the fun part of making everything work smoothly again. This is from my backups, my blogging tool of choice (ecto), file uploads, the themes, etc…. It’s not as bad as I had originally thought but it’s still not something that I enjoy.

So I hope that everybody that is available is planning on playing in the blogger big game tonight. Miami Don has one again taken the time to set up a slightly larger buyin event for all of the degenerate writers out there. This one is special as it’s included on the schedule for the Battle of the Blogger Tournaments series. You can see the current leaderboard over at Al’s page. I’ve only played in one of the events so far and of course donked out early. In blogger events I tend to either final table or be one of the first ones out. I think that I have a hard time adjusting my game to actually take into account when people might be doing some level 3 or 4 thinking. For those not in the know, here are the details for tonight’s event:

Tournament: Blogger Big Game
Where: Full Tilt Poker
When: Sunday, April 15th. 9:30pm ET
Buyin: $69+6 or token
Password: donkey
