First 2008 Golf Round

Well it's been awhile since I've actually posted anything here so I figured that it was about time. This morning I was finally able to go and get a round of golf in for the first time this year. I played in a scramble tournament less than two weeks ago but when you're playing best ball you get to just try and nail every shot and you don't get a true reading of how well you played. Today I played a round at the 9 hole executive course at Hilltop Golf Club in Alexandria. It's a nice little par 3 and par 4 course set up in a semi-links style.

Overall I'm pleased with my round. It's always different playing on a course vs. on a range or in a simulator and it showed. I was VERY inconsistent and did not hit my driver well at all on the 4 holes I brought it out. I still have an inside-out swing with that club so it starts right and then slices even further out. That's really my biggest leak and I should start teeing off with a 3 or 5 wood instead until I fix it.

Anyway, I'm about a 30 handicapper so scoring 50 on the 9 holes I played was actually not bad. My goal for this summer is to start scoring consistently in the low 90's. I think my short game is getting pretty darn good and I only 3-putted twice today so that is coming along as well. Here's a link to my scorecard from today, courtesy of the Scorecard software for Mac OSX, made by Cynical Peak Software. I highly recommend it.

Who wants to meet up in AC?

So I've got a room reserved at the Trop in AC on Friday May 30th. Any semi-local bloggers that are going to be around that weekend or want to meet up? I'm bringing a buddy of mine along that never has been to a casino before and I'm not looking to necessarily play much poker this trip. Just want to go out and have some fun. So let me know!

Eve Online

Well as you can see from the bookmarks that have been appearing, I am now playing a game called Eve Online. It's been out for almost 5 years now but unlike most games that are around that long it is still increasing its' subscriber base. The other neat thing is that all 20-30k people that are logged in at a single time are on the same server cluster. That means that if you know anybody else that plays the game you can meet up with them. No more getting separated from your friends just because you started out on the wrong server.

This game has a pretty hard learning curve, mostly because it is completely open-ended in its' gameplay. Want to do commerce? Be a pirate hunter? Invent things? You can do any and all of this if you so choose. There is also a very harsh death penalty in that you buy your own spaceships. If it gets blown up then it's gone and all that hard earned money is down the tubes.

I'm not going to bore you to tears as there is a TON of information out there about this game. Go check out their website yourself and let me know if you end up trying it out. There's a free 14 day trial so why not?

Pop-Pop's 90th Birthday Party

Here's a short video from my grandfather's 90th birthday party. I can only hope to be in as good health as he is at this age. The only reason he's in a wheelchair is because he just fell and broke his hip. Normally he's out on the golf course all the time!

Playoffs Start Tonight!

Make sure to either tune into the Versus (VS.) network tonight or head to your favorite local watering hole that has a hockey package to watch as the Caps take on the Philadelphia Flyers. Go Caps!
