Ski Photo

As promised, here is a photo of me from last weekend at Ski Roundtop:
Skiing

Hitting the slopes

This weekend I'll be heading up to my old stomping grounds in PA for a much-needed ski getaway. I haven't been to Ski Roundtop since 1992 or 1993. That's a heck of a long time considering how much time that I spent there back in my high school days. I also haven't been on skis probably since 1999 when I was working at the ski slopes up at Snoqualmie Falls in WA.

I'm sure that I will probably end up being very sore come Monday once I'm back home but it will be so worth it to actually glide down the snow again. The only downside is that it's supposed fairly nice Monday and with me being off work it would be nice to get a round of golf in. Now THAT would be a fun-filled weekend!

I'll post pictures when I get home.

Grinding Out a Profit

Holy smokes! Is this post actually going to have poker content? Why yes boys and girls it is! You see, I might have been silent lately and not showing up for most of the blogger events but I've actually started playing on a more regular basis again. The 6-max NL tables at Full-Tilt are where you can find me currently. Mostly seated at the 25NL and 50NL tables. I've taken the stance that I know how to play poker dammit, I just need to actually think about my cash game and make the adjustments necessary coming from almost purely a tournament background. I have had very limited long-term success at the cash tables online the past few years. I think that there are two very good reasons for this. First and foremost, there is admittedly a relatively small sample size. I mostly play cash games just for fun or to fill a little bit of downtime. Secondly, because of this, I never really took the time to study the differences between cash and tournament enough to really be successful. At a live cash game, I hold my own, mostly because I think the players are even worse and I tend to pay attention more because I don't have anything else to do while sitting at the table. So far the results have spoken for themselves. I haven't had a single losing session this month. Now I know and realize that this cannot be sustained long term. However, I'm winning because I'm putting myself in position to win. I am studying my opponents' tendencies and taking control of the table. If the game is not good, I get up and find a better one. When I find a fish, I find their weakness and wait to exploit it or manipulate them to exploit it. I think it's mostly just about finally finding the proper mindset and taking the game seriously again.

Heart Attack

A husband and wife were playing on the ninth green when she collapsed from a heart attack. ”Please dear, I need help.” she said. The husband ran off saying: “I’ll go get some help.” A little while later he returned, picked up his putter and began to line up his shot. His wife, on the ground, raised up her head and said: “I may be dying and you’re putting?” ”Don’t worry dear. I found a doctor on the second hole who said he’d come and help you.” ”The second hole? When is he coming?” ”Hey! I told you not to worry.” he said, stroking his putt. ”Everyone has already agreed to let him play through.”

Not Dead Yet

That's right. I still live and breathe each and every day. Just been busy with work and other exciting projects. We've had a few warm days here and I'm becoming very excited at the prospect of hitting the links for some golf very soon. I've been to the driving range once in Jan and might head there this evening. Reading and thinking about the game has apparently provided me a little bit of insight as to what was wrong with my completely incompetent swing. I was making very good contact the last time out. The secret? Concentrating on just that. Contact. I found that I was swinging like a home-run hitting for the fences and so just was very inconsistent. Take a little bit off and suddenly my accuracy and predictability of range were vastly increased. I can't wait to take my game to the course this spring/summer and track my progress.
