Damn Weatherman

Yet again the weather people can't make up their mind about how much or when it's supposed to snow. It looks like I'm going to leave work on time today and the roads should be back to normal or at least drivable in the morning. This is the only downside to global warming. No snow days!!!

WSOP ME $160 DS

Well I just won my way into a double shootout sat for the WSOP Main Event on PokerStars. For those unfamiliar with this format, it is essentially two Sit 'n Goes where the winners of the first table all advance to the 2nd. In this case, I spent $15.50 on a rebuy MTT to get my seat. In this tournament, 9th place or the final table first out, gets $30, which actually would even be a profit for me. 2nd through 8th get $160, which is the actual buyin for the sat. 1st place gets an $11,000 prize package which can be $12,000 if you agree to wear PokerStars logo'd gear at the ME. Although I hadn't played much lately, they have yet another new deposit processor that I tried out. It's quick and easy to sign up and the 4% deposit fee isn't exorbitant considering the current landscape. It does have the downside of not being able to cash back out to. But if I ever hit a big score I will just either actually get an epassporte account or request a check. These double shootouts on stars have always in the past been some of my favorite satellites and although I was planning on just trying some sats for the $1500 events, this was just too good of an opportunity to pass up. So hopefully you'll see a big post with a screenshot later if I can punch my ticket!

Wordpress Security Breach

A note to all out there. If you use Wordpress for your blog and have recently upgraded, there has been a security breach and you need to upgrade again immediately. All of the details are at Wordpress.org but here's a quick snippet:
Long story short: If you downloaded WordPress 2.1.1 within the past 3-4 days, your files may include a security exploit that was added by a cracker, and you should upgrade all of your files to 2.1.2 immediately. Longer explanation: This morning we received a note to our security mailing address about unusual and highly exploitable code in WordPress. The issue was investigated, and it appeared that the 2.1.1 download had been modified from its original code. We took the website down immediately to investigate what happened.
So if you are running that version, please make sure that you upgrade ASAP.

Close, but no Cigar

Last night I took another shot at my goal of winning both of the Daily Double tournaments on FullTilt. And true to form I went deep in one while making an early exit in the other. That's obviously my pattern now. In all reality I would love to join those people like Garth that have at least cashed in both. I think that's a better step at first. Then we can move on to the dual final tables and wins. Anyway, my previous post about short stack play was in full effect last night when we were down to 21 people left in the Daily Double A. My 'M' was below 3 when there's a MP raiser with a big stack and it's folded to me in the BB and the blinds at 5000/2500. I look down at 78 and push, hoping for a fold or two live cards. In this case I didn't even get my 40-60 shot as the raiser held QQ and IGH with 5x my buyin. Not bad and I'll take it every time. But it is always frustrating to make it that close to a decent payday in a small buyin tournament and not taking it all the way. Anyway, I have no issues with the raiser waking up there with a big pair. The majority of the time he will have either overcards or even an underpair. I'm happy with either of those in that situation. If you refuse to take a few risks or are afraid to push with less than stellar cards when you get deep into a tournament then you severely hurt your chances to win the whole thing. Now I'm not advocating it with maybe 5 players left and there's a shorter stack than you. Then it's ok to try and limp up one more spot on the payout ladder. Below the final table though I just don't see it as there's not enough money on the line.
