This is my first post using the new install of WordPress. I had briefly used WP back at version 1.4 I think. Then I had switched back to MovableType before moving on to yet another system by using Drupal. That system, although very powerful, was overkill for what I wanted to do with my site. So now I’m going to create a base HTML page which will lead to separate PHP applications depending on the content. I will try to embed some of my Flickr pictures here as well. We’ll see how long it ends up taking me to accomplish this. Hell, I’m wondering how long I’ll actually be actively blogging this time. I always seem to do it in spurts.
Went bowling today after work with some coworkers. Hadn't done that in a long time and forgot how much I loved doing it. I'll have to start going more often again. Especially in light of the fact that I've got my bowling ball back from Washington finally :)

Fall is Here
That's right, it's now fall. The leaves are changing and falling to the ground. The nights are chilly. And it is dark outside when I leave work. I hadn't been posting here as I didn't have much to say. Still don't really :) However, there IS some news for those of you whomever might find this little piece of the blogosphere. It looks like in December I'll be moving from my wonderful 4 day on / 4 day off schedule at work and rejoining the grind of Monday through Friday labor. That just sucks. I haven't had a job with a real firm schedule like that in a long time. I mean I'll still have more flexibility than a lot of people. No clocks to punch. No quotas. That sort of thing. I mean if we need to take care of some personal business we are allowed to do that as long as it's not abused. I suppose that a lot of salaried jobs could be that way.
Anyway, I'll be moving into my supervisors' position. He's going to be leaving in Janruary to head off to OCS. Thats Office Candidate School for you non-Army types. It also means that when he comes back from said school he will no longer be allowed to keep his current position (that's if he passes of course). So basically it appears that unless I magically get dumb or something that I'll be offered a full-time Active Guard job. Basically I'll be active duty Army again, just working for the National Guard. It also means that I'll be guaranteed a promotion almost right away and another in a couple of years as thats an E7 position. And of course the countdown can begin towards getting my full retirement. Less than 13 years and counting right now!
Now over the next few years Becky and I'll have to see what to do about where to live and such. Don't really want to make her move to DC but we might end up having to do that unless we want to keep having me commute on the weekends. Might just have to both pack up and move somewhere else just for kicks.
Put me in a cone!

Red Hot & Blue
Got some tasty Memphis-style barbecue last night at Red Hot & Blue. Becky was in town and in the mood for some pulled pork. So I called up Jason and asked him what he could recommend. His choice was spot on. We walked into the Roslyn location and the smell right away told you that this place could smoke some meat! I ended up getting a combo of dry rub ribs, beef brisket, and pulled pork. A very tasty meal that I look forward to eating the leftovers from.
What a Great Meal
Went to The Melting Pot last night for dinner with Becky. Not really a special occasion or anything. She had gotten a gift card as rewards points from AMEX and I had always wanted to try it out. Talk about a ton of food and it also being very different from what you might normally eat! See, it's a 4 course fondue restaurant. So we started off with a cheddar cheese and beer fondue with breads, apples, celery, and carrots. Very tasty. Next came the salad. We chose the mushroom salad. It was basic but the mushrooms were incredibly fresh and the house italian dressing was excellent. The main course was probably my favorite. They heat up a coq au vin mixture in the fondue boiler bottom and then you cook your individual bites of meat in it yourself. We had a great selection of chicken, new york strip steak, filet mignon, beef teryiaki, shrimp, and potstickers. There was also potatoes, squash, and broccoli to go into the pot as well. They had a variety of dipping sauces to go along with all of the other choices on the table. Finally came the dessert, which we decided would be the smores mixture. It was milk chocolate with melted marshmellow creme and grahamcracker cumbs mixed in. To dip, we had a selection of pineapple, bananas, strawberries, brownies, and cake.
I was so full at the end that I couldn't eat another bite even though I didn't want to stop. I will definately be visiting that place again!
